Despite Reports: The Dodge Brand is Alive and Well

dodge-fleet.jpgBy William Foster

Recently, an article was emailed to me from the website The Truth About Cars, stating that with the Chrysler Group branding the 2013 Viper as an SRT product and not a Dodge product, the Dodge brand is slowly being phased out.  The real truth is that the Dodge brand is alive and well, with some of the Group's most important brands currently wearing the Dodge badge.  Also, with models like the upcoming 2013 Dodge Dart and the popular Durango, the Chrysler Group is showing that they are working to improve the future of the young, sporty Dodge brand.

Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne told Automotive News that there will be a diesel option for the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Other Chrysler sources have stated that more large vehicles will receive the oil-burning option after the diesel Jeep launches in the US.  No other vehicles were named, but based on shared platforms and diesel availability in other markets, and given what we know about Marchionne's preference for diesel technology, we can make some educated guesses as to what will pack diesel power in 2013.

2012 SRT Lineup
2012-SRT-Lineup.jpgby Patrick Rall

I recently had a chance to speak with Ralph Gilles, the CEO and President of the new high performance SRT brand. In discussing the past of the Street and Racing Technology lineup, Gilles stated that there were some vehicles that they would not do again, if given the chance.  This included the automatic transmission equipped Dodge Ram SRT10 Quad Cab. However, Gilles was quick to point out that overall, the SRT lineup has maintained a certain level of excellence. While the latest SRT vehicles are as powerful they've ever been, the SRT vehicles of past years helped pave the way for the modern high performance lineup.

Carcinogen Cocktail: Four-Wheel Indoor Diesel Burnout!

by John Coyle
Dodge Forum

Doing burnouts, while totally fun, isn't exactly a risk-free activity. And it's kind of a given that if you're going to do one, it should be in an open area, so that if your ride suddenly happens to gain traction, you don't go plowing into someone or something.

But variety, as they say, is the spice of life. This dude apparently thinks it's perfectly fine to light them up indoors, and he gets some big bonus points for also filling the room with diesel exhaust. Anyone care for some carcinogens with your air? via Jalopnik

Is this the dumbest thing  you've ever seen? Awesome beyond words? Both? Sound off in the Forum!

Why Trim the Tree When You Can Trim Your Ram?

2012-Mossy-Oak-side.jpgRam brand announces new Mossy Oak 1500, more Power Wagon trimlines
by Patrick Rall

Chrysler's Ram Truck brand recently announced that the 2012 Ram lineup will get a few additions in the form of a new branded partnership with Mossy Oak along with two new trimlines for the mighty Ram 2500 Power Wagon.  Chrysler expects that the new limited edition Mossy Oak package will help to attract more enthusiasts who are into hunting and fishing (a main target market for the Ram brand) while the new Power Wagon trimlines will make the most capable heavy duty truck on the market more enticing to a broader audience.

Michelin and Project 56's DeltaWing: the Future of Le Mans Racing?

by John Coyle
Dodge Forum

A couple of years back, I covered a few rounds of the American Le Mans Series, and while I was a fan before that experience, I'm an even bigger fan now. So I was really interested in this video Michelin put together about the DeltaWing LMP1 prototype. The car has half the power of a current Le Mans racer, but since it's half the weight, it should still be able to lay down some pretty quick laps, and stop for tires and fuel far less frequently.

The styling is far from traditional--check out how close together the front wheels are!--but if you want to take things to the next level, you have to think outside the box. When I first saw this baby, the first thing I thought about were the Colonial Vipers from Battlestar Galactica. Now, I don't know about you, but in my opinion, if you design a fast race car, and it happens to look like a wicked-cool spaceship, you're doing something right.

We'll get to see it on the track at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. But for now, check out the video to find out more about the DeltaWing, and to learn why vehicles like it are critical factors in the development of safer, more efficient street cars.

The Obvious Choice: 2011 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Wins Big

2011-Power-Wagon.jpgWe all know the 2011 Ram 2500 Power Wagon is one bad mama jamma. Apparently, Four Wheeler magazine knows it too (though they're probably embarrassed to use that phrase). In a move that expresses serious industry clout, Four Wheeler magazine has named the 2011 Ram 2500 Power Wagon their "Pickup Truck of the Year".

Top 5 Reasons the Ram Truck is Better than Tundra

ram-over-tundra.jpgby Patrick Rall

With the recent news that Toyota is going to be raising the price on the Tundra by 3%, we got to thinking: why the heck would anyone want to pay good money for a Tundra when they can put that coin towards a Ram instead? Well, we couldn't think of any good reasons. But we did come up with five good reasons why the Ram is better than the Tundra!
