The team at Hennessey has put together an incredible twin turbo setup for the 2015-2016 Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger in their SRT Hellcat trim that lifts the output of the supercharged Hemi to 1,032 horsepower and 987lb-ft of torque.

This unique twin turbo setup for the Hellcat Challenger and Charger goes by the name HPE1000 and while it is available for both the Challenger and Charger – only 12 of each will be built. When equipped with this interesting compound forced induction setup and a set of sticky drag radial tires, the HPE1000 Hellcat Challenger and Charger will dash from 0-60 in just 2.7 seconds while running a quarter mile in just 9.9 seconds (and a trap speed of 142mph).

The HPE1000 package for the Hellcat Challenger and Charger is both surprisingly simple and uniquely intricate. On one hand, almost every aspect of the supercharged Hellcat Hemi is left untouched including the factory supercharger, but on the other hand, the compound twin turbo and supercharger setup is unique because these setups are so hard to perfect. The “only” modifications in the HPE1000 package are the stainless steel turbo headers, the stainless steel downpipe, the twin ball bearing turbochargers, the water to air intercooler, the charge piping and a new fuel system – including new injectors and a new high volume fuel pump.

The twin turbochargers in this system force air through the intercooler and into the throttle body, where the factory supercharger further compresses that air and shoves it into the Hellcat Hemi. From there, it meets with the 93 octane fuel and the result is 1,032 horsepower and 987lb-ft of torque at the transmission – providing improvements of 325 horsepower and 337lb-ft of torque over the stock numbers.

The HPE1000 package also includes signed plaques in the cockpit and under the hood, HPE1000 badges, Twin Turbo badges, Hennessey badges, Hennessey floor mats and a certificate of authenticity, as this car is as much a collectable as it is a high performance monster. With just 12 HPE1000 Chargers and 12 HPE1000 Challengers planned for production, these will be among the most unique modern Mopar muscle cars along with being among the most powerful. However, you pay for that exclusivity when comparing the power to what you can get from your local performance shop.

The HPE1000 package has an MSRP of $55,000, and that includes all of the labor for the install, all of the gaskets, fluids and fasteners and dyno testing to prove how much power your Challenger or Charger made before and after the twin turbo build.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
