For this week’s Mopar Muscle Thursday feature, I was looking for a video of a really fast Dodge Charger and I happened across a video of a 1968 Dodge Charger racing at the 2009 Mopar World Finals and running in the high 8s. It just so happens that this particular 8 second Charger is racing against Amanda in my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.
This was one of the first times out for the Demon and this was her second ever bracket race in the car (having won in the first round). We were hoping for an easy draw but instead, she drew a guy with a blown Hemi-powered 1968 Dodge Charger…that ran in the 8s. She pulled a great light and had the early lead but the cool weather helped her get down the track quicker than we expect and she broke out. While the race ended up being lost on the timers, the Charger that took the easy win flexed its Mopar muscle big time in the process of trying to run her down after the 5 second head start.
I am obviously biased but this video shows a couple awesome Mopar muscle cars in action with one being very near stock and the other being a purpose built race car so it seems like a fitting piece to feature on this Mopar Muscle Thursday.
