The later 4.7L V8 engines in the Dodge Dakota used a dual spark plug setup that means that a tune up requires 16 new spark plugs and some careful selection of tools to perform a tune up without giving yourself a huge headache. Fortunately, DF member Xxaler put together a great DIY explaining what you need to make tuning up your Dakota as easy as possible including the “right brand” of spark plug socket to buy and what length extensions you need to change the plugs.
This DIY also goes into detail on the spark plugs needed as the Dodge Dakota with the 4.7L V8 actually calls for two different types of spark plug along with the proper gapping information. All in all, this short DIY explains what tools you need, when you use which tools, which parts you need and how to adjust those new plugs to ensure that you get the most out of your Dakota tune up. If you have a 2008 or newer Dodge Dakota with the 4.7L V8, this thread can help you save money and avoid unnecessary hassle by doing your own tune up the right way.
