vanishing point challenger.jpgWhile flipping through the pages of CollectorCarNation this
week, I came across this gorgeous 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T which the owner
claims was used in the 1997 remake of the legendary movie Vanishing Point.  Nevermind the fact that the famous Challenger
driven by Kowalski in Vanishing Point was white as the owner mentions that the
car shown above was repainted but other than that – it is a numbers matching
    383/4-speed car.

The owner of the 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T claims that he
has full documentation to prove that this car was used in the 1997 filming of
Vanishing Point starring Viggo Mortensen and that the car was appraised at “well
over $70k a few years ago”.  However, the
owner is looking to get this gorgeous ’70 Challenger R/T go for a very thrifty
$57,950.  In addition to having the
proper, original 383 big block V8 engine and a freshly rebuilt 4-speed manual
transmission, this Challenger has new brakes, new front seats, new carpeting,
and – most importantly – the news that this particular Challenger was never
used in a crash scene during the filming of Vanishing Point.

    I have seen number-matching 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T models
go for this price just based on a similar condition but when you take into
consideration the fact that this car was used in movie Vanishing Point (which
has become a Mopar cult classic), this vehicle has more collectability than
your average ’70 Challenger.  The listing
does not state that this was actually one of the cars driven by the Vanishing
Point hero Jimmy Kowalski but if it is – you have to wonder why the owner opted
to paint it orange rather than the original white.  Regardless of the color, this looks like a
    great collector’s piece.
