Default 4X4 Low - How to engage

Is there a way to get the t-case (manual) in 4x4 low without grinding the gears? Needed to use it today and thought I was striping the gears out. What method do you use?

Thanks

Put your truck in neutral and put the transfer case in neutral, turn the truck off and shift into 4 low, then start it back up and drive

I broke out the manual and it mentions it will grind and that is normal. I guess I will put ear plugs in and jam it in.

What Steve said, and make sure to go from 2hi to 4low on one motion, do not stop or pause in neutral.

I will have to give that a try, is it just that it is really stiff, not mechanical binding?
