Default Help!! My defroster is stuck on defroster.

My '96 cummins is stuck on defroster. The fan works fine as does the tempature control. But the selector switch will only go off or defrost. If Iturn it to the other positions it still comes out the defrost. I replaced the switch to no avail.I tried to find the source for the vacuum but couldn't. My Ford buddy said the diesel dosen't supply enough vacuum so there is a pump. Is that true?Any ideas? Thanks

Keep looking. It's there, you've just got to find the unplugged connector or fracture in the tube.

There is a vacuum pump on a diesel. No butterfly throttle like on a gas engine which creats a vacuum.

Where is the pump? Is it electrical or mechanical?

I could be wrong, but I think it is electric. Don't know location. One of these diesel owners has to know.

I feel like an idiot. There is a vacuum pump on front of the ps pump. It has a hose that goes up to the brake booster. There is a tee on that hose that supplies the vacuum for the heater gates. The hose was missing. Fixed it right up.
