How many miles is too many? 12 valve ctd
Hey guys, The trans is going on my1500 sport. I hate my 360, so no more money is going into it. So I'm looking at '98 12 valve 4x4 with 267,000 on it. It's had trans work and front end work. I'm wondering if the engine is good for a long while. I'll be mostly using it for a daily driver with an occasional trailer pulling. Will it have the power of a 24 valve? I've got diesel fever but I'm on a gas budget. Can't afford a good 24 valve. Thanks!

SnoPro, if the truck has been maintained properly and not abused, you could easily get another 2 or 300k out of it. As for power, you wont win many drag races if its stock, But you can pull a house off of its foundation up a hill with a 12 valve and get killer mpg"s doing it Good Luck!!!

I'll put it to you this way. . . a properly set up 12 valve WILL put down more power than a VP powered 24 valve. . .they (VP44 powered 24 valves)seem to max out around 600 on #2 only and are able to get a bit over 700 with drugs. the 03 and up trucks are giving them a run for their money, however I just read on TDR where a 12 valve(maddog for those in the know) put down a little over 1280hp.
oh and 267K is nothing. . .some guys with just regular maintenance are either nearing or well over the million mile mark and still running strong without rebuild.
