RE: dreaded 53 block
I have a 2001 with a 53 block in it and I've got 177k on it with no crack so far. My feelings areif it was going to crack, odds are it would have done it by now, especially with all of the heavy towingI do.
Rapid heat change has a lot to do with it. I always plug my block heater in if the temp gets below 50f. I also let it warm up a bit before heavy towing.
They says that most of the cracked blocks come from mild weather environments. The guys way up north always use a block heater, and the guys way down south never get cold enough to have to use one.
