Default 90' D350 speedometer issues

I just got this truck and its a 5spd but someone replace the instrumenthead unit with one from a automatic truck. They also replaced the VSS. The speedometer reads about double what I'm actually going.

What can I do?

1. Get the proper VSS

2. Get the correct manual speedometer (or does it make a difference?)

Thanks, Casey

Default RE: 90' D350 speedometer issues

could be several things making it register wrong.is it connected good at the instrument panel most of the time on an older model they will break when you disconnect them thus a cable replacement ussually will fix it if the cable is good all the way to the tranny then you may have a broken gear to replace in the tranny there are two there also the spring in the speedo itself could be sprung and out of calibration
