mystery ticking in engine
ok well the subject is a 01 4 door with a 2.4L with 77,000.
the engine has a ticking noise coming from within, as well as a non-consecutive miss.
the engine has had new: spark plugs, wires, air filter, and oil changed regularly.
i have removed the valve cover and inspected the cams, rockers, springs, and lifters.
i have come up with possible solutions, but am looking for suggestions or ideas.
the things i've come up with are: a plugged wrist pin oiler, a skipped tooth on the timing belt, or possibly a bent valve.
any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

RE: mystery ticking in engine
I have a 2000 Stratus ES 2.5L with 184K. My car would turn off and would start i way a day and then it would start. It need alot of maintenance work in addition to problem.
Also it had noisecoming from the engine like it needed the lifters ajusted.
I replaced the parts listed below and that did notfix the problem or the engine noise (lifters)
Fuel Filter
Fuel pump
spark plugs
spark wire set
value cover gaskets
flushed the radiator
replace upper and lower radiator hoses
temp sensor
new distributor assembly
I resolved the starting issue and engine noise (lifers tapping) by replacing the crank position sensor.

RE: mystery ticking in engine
ya well i had done two engine flushes and still the same if not more. and CRAVEYJ those are two differant engines. i had actually work on a 2.5 once before, and what a nightmare. plus i think those engines have sludge problems anyway. i really cant think of anything more than to increase oil pressure some how at the filter housing on the engine(like on the 4G63s), unless i have other more evil problems with it. then i might need a preist!
if anybody knows anything else, then please by all means!!!
