1995 dode 2500 5.9 gas 360 needs more power please help
I have a 1995 dodge 2500 5.9L (360cid) truck (160,000 miles on it). This truck is lifted and light rack on top, so it has a little more wind resistant. I also pull a 24 foot travel trailer and 2 dirt bikes and I need more power, does anyone have any suggestions? I have already put in a MSD ignition system, hypertech stage 2 comp. system, new headers, 40 series exhaust, and a KNN air filter. I am thinking of putting an AFE cool air intake in but I don’t know if it will be worth it. If anyone has any suggestions no madder how big or small please tell me. Thank you! (And no swapping it out with a diesel is not a option lol) P.S. I also have a 1998 dodge ram van 1500 5.9L (360cic) (50,000 miles on it)can I swap that engine out and put it in my truck? Thanks again

RE: 1995 dode 2500 5.9 gas 360 needs more power please help
first of all yes u can swap the motors out they should be the same.... second of all whered you get that roof rack?... third of all if you gunna swap out that motor did you ever think or building it into a 408? i heard of guys getting alot more power and in some cases better gas mileage... maybe instead of more power you need lower gears if yours is like mine which it seems to be set up pretty much the same u got dana 60s front and rear and mine has 3.55 gears which when i got my 35s on i don't have much power to tow with so maybe you should go with 3.73s or 4.10s if you dont already have those.... you could always go forced induction maybe a procharger supercharger system or theres a guy on you tube that turbod his 360 and is makin awsome power but your looking at alot of fabrication but it would be cheaper than a supercharger.... i dont know what kind of a price range you have but youve done pretty much most of the cheaper bolt ons that they make for our trucks... but u should be careful makin that kind of power and towing without anything done to your transmission you could run into problems... i blew mine out turnin my 35s and i just swapped it over to a 5 speed manual and i wouldnt say i got alot more power but i can control it better which is what i like... hope i was able to help

The motors are basically the same, however, you would have to strip out all your electronics and replace it with the electronics (wires, computers, everything) from the 1998 truck. The main reason being they switched from OBD I to OBD II in 1996, so electronics wise they are two very different trucks.
Instead of a CAI, try the open element air filter. Search the forums for "FIPK No More" and you should find a DIY guide. For under $50, you can get the same performance as a K&N CAI.
Also try the Fastman TB. Bored out throttle body, much more throttle response and better for towing.

I dont wanna sound like a broken record here, but again, if you want the easiest way to get more power out of it is to do a cam swap. If you put a nice mild cam in it, you will be able to tell a HUGE difference while towing, while being computer friendly and also being able to retain the stock springs, retainers, and rockers.

gears. put a set of 4.56's for towing. I've been doing alot of truck shopping lately, and have bounced between an F750 or a newer F550. On a F350, the trucks are usually rated for like a 15,000lb trailer. with a 7.3 diesel, 6 speed, and 4.10's. The f550 I'm looking at is rated for a 22,000lb trailer, and the only difference between the two is the 550 is a tad longer with an 11foot bed, and 4.88's.
People will say that motor parts are better, but for a couple grand, the truck will double in performance. If you have 35's and tow often I'd say atleast 4.56's, maybe 5.13's, but only if you max the truck out.
