Question Engine interchangeability

Hi All
I am new to the forum and new to dodge.
I just picked up a 2002 Durango but before I made it home the Engine seized

Anyway now I am looking for another engine to drop in but am not sure what is compatible.

It is a 2002 4x4 with a 4.7
Will the 5.7 5.9 fit?
What years will work?
What else needs to be changed?
Any other interesting swaps?
Any tips hints things I should look out for?
Any one have an engine for sale in my neck of the woods?
(I am in Calgary AB)

Thanks For the help.

Sorry to hear about your luck. The 4.7 and 5.9 are not interchangeable and I'm pretty sure the same goes with the Hemi. The real question is can you get your money back and buy a quality used D from someone who took care of their ride? I understand as-is but to not even make it home before the thing is toast is ridiculous. I would talk to a lawyer if I were you.

Thanks for the info, I did not think they where interchangeable but was hoping.
I got the truck cheep from some one I know, looks like they got screwed over by the shop that did an over hall on the engine for them. (they got the work done but have had it parked mostly before I got it as they got a new car)

I got the truck cheep enough that even with replacing the engine I will still come in at around 1/2 the cost of buying one in good running order based on local Kijiji adds for Durangos

What is a good price for a good 4.7?
I found 1 for sale for $2300 (more than I payed for the truck) with a 1 year warranty.
Seams steep to me so I am going to call around to see if I can get a better price on Monday

I know that the 4.7's are an expensive engine vs the 5.9 but I don't know what they run. I have the 5.9 my D will be way past dead before the engine even starts to give up.

Good luck on the shopping around and look into if the engine is still under warranty with the shop that rebuilt it.

The Hemi 5.7L is the same basic block as the 5.9L and 5.2L but are not interchageble.

What would be involved in converting to a 5.9
Trany? T-case? motor mounts? ECU? Wiring? and so on?
Just wondering incase I cant find a 4.7.

Pretty much everything you mentioned and you would want to get the wiring from the same model year. It would be a lot cheaper for you to just buy a new D rather than build on that one. Replace the 4.7 with another 4.7. I was digging around eBay yesterday and I found used 4.7's were going for about $2500.

It has been done, but like he said a lot of $ comes with the swap. Use the search tool and look under " swap "
