Pull it from the front. I am sure that there is not enough room to pull it through the dog-house exspecially on the 98 and latter vans, too much dash in the way. My Haynes Repair Manual #30065 shows to pull it out the front. You will need to remove the intake and keep the hoist as close to the top of the engine as possible inorder to get the lift need to remove the engine.

If you can you should buy you a repair manual such as the Haynes 30065 or even a Chilton's. These will be very valuable on this and other repairs.
