Default transmission pblm no reverse all of a sudden

I have an Dodge Durango RT 2000
last night the reverse went out all other gears working fine.
Do I need a new transmission or is there anything that would cause this to go out.
Before it went out I had it in 4 wheel drive to get out of a snow drift and then I had issues getting it out of 4 wheel drive and finally I got it back in reg 4 wheel and now it won't go in reverse.

Please help,

Mark

Remove the transmission pan and inspect the reverse band and ck for a broken strut or piston or spring.

I would bet that you may need a tranny rebuild. Same exact thing happened to me. Lost reverse gear but all forward gears worked. Remembered a week before the loss, the tranny did a big thump noise that startled me while travelling at 70 mph. must be the reverse band or something going out.

This same issue happened to another fellow user in this forum. We both had our trannies replaced with fastman's bulletproof built tranny.

Here are some message threads concerning reverse gear tranny failure:

First thing to do is pull the pan and see what parts may be sitting in it. small metal flakes are normal but you happen to find little metal pieces that is a problem. adjust the reverse band. if you just see flakes, if you see small metal pieces (like little chunks) then you need to have it rebuilt. Another is to check your shifter cable adjustment.

Here is the tourq for your year, also shows you where to the band adjustment screw are atand how to do it...

Band

42RE - Tighten band adj. screw to 72 in-lb, back off 3 turns
44RE - Tighten band adj. screw to 72 in-lb, back off 1 7/8 turns
46RE - Tighten band adj. screw to 72 in-lb, back off 2 7/8 turns
47RE - Tighten band adj. screw to 72 in-lb, back off 1 7/8 turns
From Bill Konolday's 47RE notes: I usually go a little looser than factory
specs on this front band - backing off the adjustment screw 2 or 2 1/4 turns.
Depending on the circumstances I have backed off the band up to 2 1/2 turns.
Rear Band
42RE - tighten band adj. screw to 72 inch pounds, back off 4 turns
44RE - tighten band adj. screw to 72 inch pounds, back off 4 turns
46RE - tighten band adj. screw to 72 inch pounds, back off 2 turns
47RE - tighten band adj. screw to 72 inch pounds, back off 3 turns
