Default Drop Fuel Tank or Remove Bed

Which is easier to replace/fix sending unit...drop the tank or remove the bed? What is needed to removed the bed? I have dropped a tank on my old FORD and then found out it was easier on me to have removed the bed....don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Do most just replace the sending unit? IS there another one out there besides the crappy part that DODGE put on? Please list the source if there is...

You have to replace the whole pump. And as far as removing the bed or not, it is debatable . I remove the tank, not the bed.

Agreed. It's easier (IMHO) to drop the tank.

I just did the pump as well and dropping the tank even without a lift was easy. From what I hear, pulling the bed may be a PITA to re-align when you are finished. Just be sure you have strong (not rotten) tank straps when you put it back on. And be sure your high pressure (supply) line to the rack is in good shape. I put the pump in and tested it only to be surprised with a rotted line. With full capacity going through the lines, all the weak spots and pin holes bursted....A 3 hour job turned into a 3 day job since the stores are not open on the weekends around me...

One more for dropping the tank. I helped a buddy of mine change beds on his ford. It's poking out VERY little on the drive side and now it makes a whistling sound when he's on the freeway. so it's up to you, pick your poison!

not sure if this would help or not but there is a vent kit DIY thread in the CTD forum DIY list that gives the how to on removing a 3rd gen tank. might be worth a look.

There's a couple of guys on here that removed the tank w/o dropping it and , as long as you don't have a body lift on it, removed the front bolts on the bed and loosened the rear ones. They then lifted the front of the bed to look like a dump truck and propped it up. You don't have to go real high just enough to where you can remove the assembly. This way hen you are done you can lower the bed and tighten everything back done. I know this is a little late but it can be done and has been with alot of success.
