Hello got a question. I got a 98 1500 with the 5.1 V8 Magnum and what I would like to do is put a HEMI engine in my baby. I want the SRT 6.1 HEMI. Is it possible to do that swap and if so, is there a write-up. Thanx 4 the help

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, a 5.1L V8 Magnum does not exist. The options are 5.2L or 5.9L.

If you want to do a 6.1L HEMI swap, no, there are no write-ups that I know of. You would have to swap the engine, all wiring (computer modules all the way down to the sensors), the transmission, and many other drivetrain components. Basically, you'd need an entire donor car/truck, and even then, it'd probably cost as much if not more than buying a used 6.1L HEMI car or SUV. You'd also probably have to do quite a bit of custom work to get everything to fit the way it should and work properly.

The best route for a 5.2L or 5.9L V8 is a stroker kit.

Damn....i thought it would be as easy as any other swap. Engine, ECU, Engine wire haress, motor mounts, etc. Ok so there has not been any swap with the 2nd gen Ram?

I have never heard of doing a hemi swap into a 2nd gen. It has been talked about, but I dont think anything every got done about it. I have seen people do a V10, CTD, or an old 426 hemi swap into the 1500, but its like others said above, practically everything needs to be replaced, and by the time you are done, you could have bought a new truck.

I haven't seen any on here, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done before. Like i said it would be very expensive, cool project though. I know some people have done the v6-v8 swap, 318-360, v8- diesel.

You have a 98, which you could do a 408 stroker w/ a supercharger (96 and up have what they call OBDII- which is your on board computer that runs your trucks electrical for the engine/trans which you can use a chip or programmer with).

Check this guy out, http://www.rm-indy.com/ . For prices on the stroker kit there is, krcperformance.com , http://www.campbellenterprises.com/p...ery=eag2010230 . i havent personally had any dealing with either. KRC if very reputable though. Campbell i have never heard of but im going to give them a call on monday and get some more info on their product. Hope it helps. Try doing some research on cheaper bolt on mods you could do. (click search at the black title bar).

I've seen 440's dropped in our trucks in magazines. They ditch the ECU, run it carb, and a manual. A 440 with six pack induction will hang with the 426 anyday.

You could use aftermarket EFI, like an AEM tuner or something like that. It would be easier, and you could play around more with tranny options (Allison, anyone?). But, if you do this swap you will be required to have zoomies sticking straight up through the hood. And a paint job that involves skulls and/or scantily clad women.
