I switched to Mobile 1 at 102,000 miles. I bought the truck with 86,000 on it, and no reason to believe synthetic was used before. I've had no problems.
I have been thinking about switching to Castrol or Valvoline synthetic.

I would recommend a synthetic, but really, people have run these, and many other engines, for 200,000+ on regular oil.

I have used 4 quarts of Castrol GTX High Milage 10W-30 and 1 quart of Lucas Oil Stablizer (which is the recommended 20% by Lucas) every 3000-3500 miles since I owned the truck. I don't know if the v6 is also a 5 quart capacity, but I would recommend using Lucas Oil Stabilizer 20% of whatever your capacity is. When I first got the truck, it had some blow-by if you got on the gas when the engine is cold, but now I haven't seen any blowby in almost a year. I will keep using that oil combination cause I'm happy with it.

On a side note, I also use that Lucas Oil Stabilizer 100% in my rear differential and it has been great. That differential makes no noise at all.

I am using Valvoline High Mileage Synthetic Blend 10W30 with 20% Lucas Oil Stabilizer. When I swap in the V8 I will run a full synthetic with 20% Lucas Oil Stabilizer. Most likely Castrol or Valvoline.

im running synthetic 10w30 valvoline max life (for engines over 120,000KM) along with 50% lucas oil stablizer (higher recommendation for more worn engine) in my v6.

bad news for me is, even after the hughes plenum fix, and 50% lucas in the oil, shes still burnin oil. not nearly as bad as before, but, you can still see the blue smoke coming out of the tailpipe and you can smell it.... im stumped as to whats gunna fix mine....

well i was originally looking for a 360, but now im getting a free 318, so im debating a 390 stroker... but thats another subject. ive really given up all hope in ever getting my 3.9 to run and work properly. so im just gunna run it til it dies, and then drop the new engine in. ill keep up routine maintenance, but no major repairs...

same here, but i've only done 3 oil changes since i've owned the truck (had it under a year) so I am still trying to find an oil to stick with. the change before i used penzoil high millage. i liked that too. though, for sure, i'm stickin with the lucas... burning less oil and runs a bit smoother. plus just the thought makes me feel like i'm being responsible... usually i get kinda cheap about things like this, but I figure this is definitely worth the investment.

Just an update to my opinion on oil here. After taking apart the 318 with 50,000 miles on it and seeing the original honing marks and the condition the engine was in, I will be switching over to Mobil 1 synthetic in my trucks. For the 318 and the 4.7L when I get it running.
