1999 Durango Transmission...
My 99 Durango's transmission is about to puke out on me. It has been grinding for a few weeks now and if I get on it, it will slip really bad. I don't understand why it does this. I get all of my scheduled maintences done. I bought the Durango about 6 months ago & had all the differential and transmission/transfer case fluids changed. I had a friend look up a trans and he found one for that had 107,000 miles and a 90 day warranty for $550, decent price? (but still risky!) Mine currently has 122,000 and I dont know if its been rebuilt...Any suggestions?! I'm NOT rich!

You've done all your required maintenance but what about the previous owner? A total rebuild at 122K miles for a Chrysler tranny is really not that far out of line IMO. I'd be very suspect of any high mileage transmission and a 90 day warranty. Spend the money (borrow if you have to) an get it rebuilt correctly by a good tranny shop and then forget about it.

I agree with bamboo, but if the rebuild is gonna cost the same as a new one why not spend the money for the new one. I have also noticed my tranny was slipping too, but I changed the tranny fluid more often to clean whatever was in there out. What are some of the symptoms your having? I have about the same amount of mileage and my tranny is fine. I go four wheeling and use it as a daily driver. check the fluid level and also you might wanna check the throttle position lever attached to the throttle body. it might be misadjusted. I hope this helps.

I checked the fluid. It's perfect. I guess it's time for a rebuild or a new tranny. The cheapest I can get around here with a good warranty is $1600 3 year/36,000 miles. Anyone have any idea how much a new transmission cost? And how do I know what transmission is in my Durango? I have the 5.2l (4wd) & 3.55 gears if that helps any...

Lam 1,600 is not bad at all especially for that warranty I believe you are using 45rfe but I could be wrong just keep a look out from hydra he just dealt with his tranny a few days ago so he should be able to confirm this. I would not touch a used tranny get your's rebuilt or buy new. Pizmp that's not too bad I wonder what the labor on that would be though...
