you might be best helped by hopping onto a forum for Directed products. It is possible that if the battery was disconnected for a long while, the module has "forgotten" the remotes. It's also possible that it was disconnected to resolve a starter-kill situation, as it's most likely part of an alarm system. As stated before, the box can be installed pretty much anywhere, but is most likely up underneath and inside the driver side dash. Every installer has their own ways of doing the install as far as where everything is tapped into, which fuses or even if they are "inline".
