Brighter back-up bulb?

Brighter back-up bulb?
I just ordered Altezza style taillights hoping to get more backup light. (Conveniently somebody motivated me by smashing an original taillight while I was parked on the street.)
I'm looking at replacing the stock reverse 3057 bulb with something brighter. I see halogen alternatives (3156). But, they list them at 50 Watts (per bulb). If I'm right, that's around 4 Amps. So, 8 Amps just for backup lights.
Does anybody know if that circuit can handle that much more current? Or, what else is on the circuit if anything? I'm not even sure what the 3057 draws; but, I know it's significantly less. I've seen them listed as low as 6 watts.
I can't seem to find any information on this. But, it seems like a lot of people use them. I'd really appreciate hearing of any experience with these or information.
