Rear pinion bearings

Just did mine. Well, I regeared which involves new pinion bearings. Nothing you can do in advance really. If your bearings are shot, check for damage on the races. If the races are good, it will be a fairly easy job. If the inner bearing is shot. its gonna take a little more time and know-how as you have to get the carrier out of the diff which requires a spanner tool (i made one which was stupid easy). Then knock the races out. put new ones in, reseat the carrier, check backlash and all this other crap. If you have anymore direct questions, feel free to ask.

First make sure your wheels are chocked so that your truck can't run you over since that ujoint is the only thing holding you truck in place. Once you have covered safety precautions then you can put a prybar in between the yoke and the ujoint and pry forward on it. I would recommend putting your truck in neutral so that the driveshaft can spin freely to relieve andy torque preload on the ujoint. That way you don't get smashed in the face when removing the ujoint.
