The 4wd selector switch is not lit nor can I go into 4wd. I've checked all the fuses that I know of and I even replaced the switch which didn't work. Anyone know what else I can do?

 

sounds like the transfer case electric motor has gone out of it.
Be something like this.

Note: that may not be the exact motor you need. you would want to input your exact vehicle specs as i was not aware of them when i looked this up.

I don't have any codes showing when I do the on, off, on, off, on. Just pdone. The only light on is the service 4wd light. If the transfer case motor is bad would it cause the selector switch to not light up?

 

When you had the 4wd switch out, did you ck the wires for any voltage coming from any of the wires with a 12v test lite or DVOM? You also should have a TCCM under the dash. Either next to the right of the steering colum or bolted on the left side of the dash above the fuse box. Also ck the park brake ratchet, the wires do run thru the bulk head next to the ratcket assy. and will short to the park brake switch. Also the P codes only give you PCM codes. Transmission and any others codes need a scanner.

 

Ok fellas, I changed the tccm out today and it did not work, but the lights on the 4wd selector switch seem to be on but very very dim. I unplugged the wire on the side of the transfer case electric motor and tested the plug, no reading on the meter, but these wires run to the transmission. Would I or should I get a reading from here?

 

another question, after changing out the tccm, is there a reset procedure for the system?

 

To reset your engine codes:
Remove the negative terminal of your battery (10mm wrench).
Turn your ignition key to START and hold it there for about 15 seconds.
Turn your ignition key to OFF and remove it.
Connect the negative terminal of your battery.
Start but do not hit the throttle. Idle for about 10/15 seconds then turn off.
Restart the truck and drive as usual. It will take at least 12 starts and 48 miles to fully retune the computer. Hard Codes leave a shaddow for 40 full cold starts.

After doing the above it will take time for the computer to relearn and make the correct adjustments. So you may experience a little rough idle, harder shifts ext.. till computer relearns.


Now as mastertech said did you have power to the switch you replaced? because if you do not have power to the switch then you know it is before the switch, if you have power to the switch and then once activated and you have power out of the switch you know it is after. this is where i would start. need to find if it is before or after.

 

Very well could be the harness that plugs into the transfer case electric motor on the transfer case. Sounds like a grounding problem with the "lights on the 4wd selector switch seem to be on but very very dim". Sounds like a wire is grounding out or bad connection. When the Transfer Case Motor is activated there should be 10 volts at the motor leads.

Still, we need your year and engine size?


Could be the Transfer Case Control Module, instrument panel mounted Selector Switch, Mode Sensor, or wiring.
