i have a 93 5.2/auto and im swapping in a nv3500 out of a 95 3.9/5spd. i am wondering wut clutch i can use and wut i need to do w/ the pcm situation to make the 5 spd work and if i can use the same driveshaft out of the 95. and also n-e thing else that is required for the swap

To answer your specific questions here, you cannot use the same driveshaft, you need one that is 7 inches longer (for the 4x4, probably the same for 2wd but double check if you have a 2wd). The pcm is a non-issue. It will throw the transmission codes and the shift light won't work, but it runs the engine just fine. The check engine light will not stay on for the thrown codes. As for the clutch, just look up on most any parts site and put in a '95 5.2 for the info.

One thing I want to point out here, the '95 3.9 did NOT come with an nv3500, it came with an ax-15 and the ax-15 will break under the torque of the 5.2, so you need to make sure that its really an nv3500 that is coming out of that truck.

 

Is it a difficult swap to do? the auto trans went out on my 92 3.9 and i want to swap in a 5 speed. ive done tranny work and clutch work and tranny swaps on frnt wheel drive vehicles so i cant imagine its that hard.

 

last to my knowledge the ax15 was only used in the jeeps and the 4 cyl dakota, and both the 93 and the 95 are 2wd

 

No the ax15 was used in v6 dakotas. All the info Ive read says the nv3500 was ONLY put behind the V8 motors. There is an NV2500 that they put in some.

Get the flywheel from a 5.2. Make sure its not from a 5.9, as they are externally balanced.

Seriously though, make sure its the right transmission or all the work to swith it over will be pointless very soon.

 

+1. And I repeat, the ax-15 is the tranmission behind the v6, NOT the nv3500. Please listen to us now so it doesn't come back to bite you later.

 

Its not a hard swap at all. As long as cutting a hole in your floor pan doesn't make you nervous, it is an easy, direct swap. IMO, the manual trans is much easier to put in than the automatic.
