Default 4 Wheel Drive Making A New Noise

Theres a storm coming though and I couldn't resist playing in the snow. When I put my truck in 4x4 it makes almost like a squeaking noise...kinda hard to explain. When I go faster it goes faster and like wise when I slow down. As soon as it kicks out of 4x4 the noise stops.

I do have a bad axle seal on my drivers side so could it be water inside my front diff freezing? I went on a mountain ride Saturday night with 8 other trucks and I went though this mud hole. That night I had to use 4x4 at some points too because the roads were ice and it didn't make any noises.

when my passenger seal was leaking i heard a squeak squeak squeak when i pulled into a parking spot (in 2 wheel drive). so i could be that leaky seal. why don't you change it?
are you at least keeping an eye on the fluid level?

I changed my front diff fluid about a month and a half ago after I went mudding for the last time. Other than that I haven't been though anything except for Saturday night and I haven't drove my truck anywhere since then till tonight.

I haven't checked the level but at the same time my truck hasn't been leaking anything from where my bad seal is (drivers side). I guess I need this weather to clear up so I can pull my front diff cover.

Just a thought, but I would take a look at your front axle u joints. Check to see if there is any play in the front drive shaft.

I'll have to check that out tomorrow, its going to be raining all day today. I took another listen when I took my mom to work today and the it sounds like its coming from the front drivers side side (the drivers side seal is bad) granted I can't hear the passenger side.

I should have told my mom to take a listen on that side while she was in there but I get tried of listening to her say "Oh what did you break now". The sound like rubber rubbing sorta kinda.

Well I just got done looking under my truck and needless to say when I spin the front drive shaft it makes that squeaking noise and it moved a little up and down infront of the transfer case.

Seems like a good time to take my truck back to the dealership and use my extended warranty for my axle seal, power steering pump and that u joint for $100.

you got it !
i'd guess the u-joint in the front drive shaft. the big double carden thingy.

its not the axle u-joint or seals or diff. as those turn all the time in 2wd.
