Default Engine Casting Numbers

Ok, where the hell are they? Working on an '89 for the gal I'm seeing. She was told it had a 318 when she bought it, but the catalyst sticker says it's a 360 and we want to verify what it is to plan the engine mods. I have a list of what casting numbers went with what engines for that year, but I have no idea where the damn casting numbers are on the block. Anyone have any idea? Thanks.

THanks man. I think they were in that same general area on the '76 440 I just sold, figured they'd probably be in the same area on this one. I'll look next time I have her truck in my shop. I rolled under my '97 and couldn't find any casting #'s on my Magnum block.

My uncle swore he had a 318 in his van until I saw the sticker that said it was a 5.9 and then crawled under and looked at the big 360 cast into the side.... not sure why people think they're all 318s

As far as I know this was a fleet vehicle that she bought from a company. She was told it was a 318 when she bought it, so that's what she's assumed right along. I know what you're talking about, in college I owned an '84 Chevy wrecker. Was told it had a 350 in it when I bought it, but when I replaced the clutch I found out it was a 400 small block.

You should be able to just pop your head under the driver's side and look above/in front of the starter. You don't even have to pop the access hatch or hood, just grab a light and it's pretty visable.
