Default High Pitch Whistle

1997 Dodge Avenger V6.

lately have noticed a Really high pitched whistle coming from the engine bay. Its loudest when the car is cold. but will not go away.. And the harder i accelerate the louder and higher pitched it gets. i have a SRI. but i know its not that... what does this sound like it could be. Hole in exhaust. Ect???? Im not too worried its just annoying the S*it out of me.. =/

just opened the hood and listened a little closer and it Really sounds like it could be a belt. would a belt make this noise????

It's possible the belt is loose and slipping ...
Are you positive it's not the intake ??? remove the filter and start the car and see if the whistle goes away ....
Does the pitch change with acceleration ???

Positive its not the intake because the noise is coming from the left side of the engine. (looking at it from the front) which is where the belts are. and the intake is obviously on the right. and this noise is totally seperate from the intake. i can hear both the intake fuctioning normally and this obnoctious noise coming from somewhere on the left side of the motor.

But like i said the pitch is Constant it never stops and the harder i accelerate the higher pitched it gets.

Could be belts , belt tensioner or bearings in one of the belt driven accesories

alright. ill b taking it into a shop tomorrow morning.. really dont have the time to be messing around with it... hopefully nothing to serious..

well the shop was closed this morning. so i took it over to my grandfathers house. we were looking at it. and he is almost Positive it is the Idler Pulley. does this sound logical???

alright... greatt looks like a pain in the A$$ to change tho.. is there a write up on how to change it out on the net sumwhere.

You call it the idler pulley ... Is it the tensioner pulley ???(applies tension to keep the belt tight ??? and are you refering to the timing belt or the serpentine belt
