Default Weird Headlight Problem

Hey, I am stumped on a problem with my headlights on my 96 dakota 3.9. I did a brake job to the back brakes (nothing out of the ordinary), go for a test drive and notice my headlights will not turn off, so after pulling the dash apart to get at the light knob (headlight switch), I just decided to run a switch on the main power for the headlights (going to the switch) before it hits the switch, and surprising everything worked. I tried it out and it worked good, but after about half an hour i tested it again and i had no power to my switch, at this point I was beyond confused so I came instead to research. Any help would be greaty appreciated!

ok, just went out and found out that I have no power going to my main lightswitch (for headlights, interior dimmer, gauge lights, etc..). Does anybody have a schematic of the headlight electrical system? are there any fuses that may have went that I could check? my manual doesn't tell me much...
