Default 302 v8 swap

I might have a chance to get my hands on an 1987 ford f150 with a 302 in it and I might swap that motor into my Dakota after I build to 302 up it has 190hp with 318ft lb Stock I'd like to get it to hit 250hp and 400ft lb has any one ever heard of doing the 302 swap

I'm sorry to say, but I really think that is kinda dumb. If you are doing all the work to make that motor make more power, and then making it bolt into the truck, you might as well just buy a 318 or 360 and bolt it in.
I'm assuming you have a v6 now? If so, a 318/360 will bolt in much easier and you can even use the stock trans or a stock 318/360 trans. They are DESIGNED to go into these trucks.

I wouldn't recommend it. My 4.7L has 235 stock, and the 5.9L has 245 stock. Save the hassle and swap in a 5.9 as marcar1993 said above.

My thing is I don't have the cash to buy a 318 or a 360 I'm getting the truck free and right now I have the 2.5l with a-15 tranny and I have all thing needed to swap the 302 I would need a complet donor truck for the 318 or 360 but I'm going with the 302 couse it's free I might just install the Motor the pull it later to do the work and with any motor v8 swap at this point would be a power increase but I was stuck on I didn't want a v8 I wanted a rb26dett motor Also it doesn't cost me anything to custom make stuff so mounts and all are not a concern my friend own a complete machine shop So I could do the 302 for pennies compared to the 318 or 360

Then you'll have to buy a transmission, which is significantly more expensive than a used 5.9 or 5.2L.

Not to discourage you but that free truck is the body any good?

If that answer is yes I'd look to trade it or sell it on Craigslist for what you'd need.

The problem with the engine/trans swap from the 302. You'll probably need to jerry rig a harness for the computer, the mounting as the other gentlemen have pointed out and if it's a full sized truck we are talking here the trans may not fit properly in a Dakota.

Also you would be looking at using the rear of that Ford and possibly the axle. Are you able to find someone to or are you able to cut that shorter?

I don't like to be negative. I just want to make sure you realize what you're getting yourself into.

If none of the above options are really available. Best of luck and please post the pictures.

i wouldn't do it personally. you could sell the truck and get the engine, trans and rear end you need. it would all bolt in and would look stock if you wanted it.
if you want more juice than a mag 5.2 or 5.9 then add a cam, heads and intake to the mix, bigger injectors and your set. you would easily pass up the goal 302 power with less work to fit in in the truck. either way you look at it the ford will be more work than it's worth in most ppls eyes.
one thing to consider if you set out to do the ford swap is that once you start you will have two trucks down and if you get it done you will still have one dead truck just sitting there. i personally think you'd be much happier to wait and get a magnum v8 for it.
im saying this with the expierence of having to help get a cross breed or two done in the past with freinds. and the simple fact is that no matter what you do it won't be right. it will still be a dodge with a ford engine that you had to custom make everything for. parts won't be readily available if anything happens.
if you set a magnum in it you can order stock replacement parts.
if you go on with this project i hope you have the time and patients needed for it.
