it rained today for the first time since the swap and it is alot funner with the LSD, but i think i may need an adjustable proportioning valve to go inline wuth the rear brakes cuz i have them adjusted way down than what they should be and they lock up really easy if i have to get on the brakes hard. thoses are not too expensive or hard to install though so no big woop, it is still drivable, just have to be more careful.

I know this thread is about a year old but I just stumbled on this thread. Im wanting to do the same. Ive got a 96 dakota 5.2L 5 speed. Ive got an 8.25 open rear end right now and it doesnt take much to spin the one tire. The only thing I dont understand is when you said flip the shock mount/spring plates around and use them. Can you explain a little bit more. Where did you get the shock mount/spring plates?

I did this swap not long after Bad96 did. I got the axle from a junk yard... it came out of a 2001 Dodge Durango 2wd. The 2wds are axle over spring, and the 4x4s are axle under spring. Also, one shock mount faces rearward and the other faces frontward, whereas on our trucks they both face rearward. Since I have a 4x4, I had to cut off the downward facing spring perches and the shock mounts and weld on upward facing perches and shock mounts in the factory locations. I got the shock mounts from ebay... they were from a fabricator that makes 4x4 parts and were just a few dollars a peice. I got the spring perches from 4wd.com. I hope this answers your questions.
Keep in mind though... its not the 8.25 inch axle that is causing your one-wheel-spin. Its the open differential and whatever tires you have on it that cause that. Just because you get a 9.25 inch differential does not mean it will have a limited slip differential in it. If all your worried about it the one-wheel-spin, you'd be better off putting the time and money into installing a LSD or locker. My 9.25 inch axle did not come with the LSD, but I installed one myself, and with the 31.5x10.5 inch tires, it won't spin the wheels unless I grab the clutch over 3000 rpm even in the rain.
