Default Gas Gauge

So my 96 dakota gas gauge never worked when i bought it. When i fill up the truck the needle just bobs around. When i use some of the fuel it sits on E. I have never seen the low fuel light come on. Is it not coming on because the gauge doesnt work? Even if it say on E i thought it would still come on?

I'm not sure if they are connected or not, but my low fuel light stopped working on my '95 when the gauge went out.

FAQ has a small write up on this. Its usually the connectors to the sending unit or inside the sending unit or the gauge sender itself. Clean up your connections make sure they are tight. If you have to you made need to replace the entire sending unit inorder for it to work.

Well, I had the same issue. The fuel gauge didn't work, BUT the low fuel light did when I got the truck. One day the truck wouldn't start, wasn't getting fuel. I made a mistake and changed the fuel pump. Misdiagnosed the problem because halfway through I found out it was that faulty electrical connection that had corroded apart under the hood, which of course was listed in the FAQ. Anyways, I figured worst case was that I would get a working fuel gauge out of the deal since it was a new pump and finished the install. I actually ended up worse off than I was before the new pump because now the gauge still doesn't work and the low fuel light is always on.

Crazy, this sending unit is not a part of the fuel pump?
