Hey guys i just read the thread about the 408 stroker build and i think thats awesome. Do you guys know anything about doing something similar to a 1990 318? Could i make a 408 out of the 318 or no? i know he is using a 5.9L mag and the internals are diff. Any thoughts or resources would be great guys.
Thanks

UPDATE: I just answered my own question lol. So i think i want to build a 390 stroker out of my 318! Im going to take it slow but do you think i could just bore the factory heads to .030 over instead of getting new heads and what not. And any advice on beafing up a 46RH tranny, i plan on using the truck for off road and towing. Im going to get it rebuilt first but i want to change the gear ratio out maybe lower it? Any thoughts.
trans go makes shift kits... about 100-200 dollars for a kit, and they have varied performance levels (though I doubt it changes the capacity). I think they have stage 1, 2, 3 or something to that effect. obviously 3 being the highest, which would be full manual control (would require a shifter... unless you want to use your column shifter lol) if i remember correct the mid-range offers both automatic and partial manual operation (ratchet shifting ect.) I think summit may carry two of them... but its been a while since i checked.
all these kits do is firm up the shifting, making the clutch overlap smaller so's to prevent wear ect.
I dont know much about tranny rebuilds... can you have the ratios changed in the box? or does that require different gears outback?
your truck being a '90, does it have the 46rh? it thought that the 90's had the a518... the difference is negligible at best, i think it might just be the classification... all of them are basically just 727's w/ an electronic over-drive
well the truck i am doing this to is an 89 3.9L so it would have been and a500/ 42RH im pullin an 46RH out of a jeep for the v8 i wanna build and i just want it bulletproof.
Thats not a bad price i found some complete kits for like $1700.00. So thats pretty fare. I plan on doing this my self and taking it slow as i have two trucks so 1 for driving and the one im doing this to. Im going to start by breaking the engine down and just start with the block and save up for a crank and than do the heads etc... What would the overbore be for the 402 .040 or .060?
