wont run under 1000 rpms?

hello my 90 dodge dakota is haveing some issues with running unless its in the 1500 or 2000+ rpm range what would do this ? if i let it idle it just dies when i start it i have to feather the gas pedol to get it to start the injectors work fine i just dont know what would do this ? please any insight or suggestions would be helpfull

Check your vacuum lines, brake booster line and PCV vacuum for leaks.

Most likly it is the IAC. Idle Air control valve. They tend to get stuck. Clean it up or just replace. For location check the service manuals listed in the FAQ in this section.

Idle Air Controller. This is located on the back of the throttle body. Remove it and try cleaning it and the passage for it in the throttle body.
If that doesn't work, you will have to replace it.

is it a little gold cilender with a vacuum hose going to it ?

ive looked for quite a while and found out there is no such thing on my throttle body in my manual it dosent have one labeled either mabey its a idle speed controll u mean ? thats the closest i can find to it any more input would be apritiated greatley dont want to see this pickup go to the wreckers

Yes that is it. Idle speed control unit. Lots of different names. Same function. You can always look in the Online service manuals we have listed in the FAQ in this section.

is there a way to test it before i replace it if so how ?

Take it off. Push the tip as far in or out as it can go reinstall. Start engine. If your engine dies or idles high and stays, then it is bad. If your engine goes to a normal idle then it is okay.
