Awful Metallic Noise While Trying To Start 95 Dakota
I have been trying to start up my 95 3.9l Dakota after overhauling it, but had no luck. When I crank the engine, it turns and you can hear a loud metallic-rubbing noise that worries me. I am not sure if this has anything to do with the starter. You can hear the starter doing its job, but you also hear that awful metal noise. Does somebody know what that is?? Any ideas?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The engine had to be taken down and cleaned because the previous owner never changed the oil. There were very thick walls of oil gunk everywhere inside the engine, and it was so much gunk that it blocked the oil veins. The engine was sent to be cleaned as well as the heads, and the valves were lapped. We replaced rings, camshaft bearings, crankshaft bearings, lifters, timing chain with tensioner, gaskets, crankshaft sensor, spark plugs, filters, fuel pump, caps, distributor, rotor.

Umm ... hint. On a fuel injected vehicle, it doesn't do any good to keep pumping the throttle - that's old carb for injecting more fuel off the fuel pump.
What it CAN do is take the motor off the idle stop, and if you floor it, some cars will shut the injectors off to allow you to clear the flood condition.
