Default Anyone else have similar issues? Popping, sputtering, stalling

Hi there fellow Dodge people,

I have a 93 Dakota Sport v6 with 315K. I've owned it for a couple summers, and "Rocky" has not been feeling well more often than not. I gave him that name because he used to only start when I rocked him. Sometimes he starts no problem, and sometimes won't start at all - the engine is turning, but won't fire, and sometimes he won't stay on, even if I'm rocking it. I've tried to start it in neutral, but it doesn't make a difference. He likes to stall, usually when I leave him in park for a while idling, and once when I was accelerating from a stop - in drive. When I start him, he pops and smokes and sounds like backfiring a little. And randomly when we're drving, he'll sputter and pop.

I've changed the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, starter and had the fuel pump tested - which was fine, and had the wiring checked from the fuel pump.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Check the power wire splice that is just down below the Power distribution center. It is a common problem. For a good write up on it check the FAQ in this section.

Kilometers, not miles ) But, even then, it's been loved. I'm only the second owner!
