I just secured a dana 60 front with factory 4.56 gears for 250 bucks. Axle has 60,000 true miles on it. Was in a wrecked 98 3/4 ton dodge. It had a dana 80 rear the guy wanted 350 for. Lol. My 70 has a limited in it already so Im good to go.
So my truck is set for axles. I can pick up the axle until october 7th due to the guys schedule. I will have my rear hung as soon as I can find someone with a drill press I can use for 10 minutes. I went ahead and had 5/8 u bolts made, so I need to drill out my spring plates. Im doing the ubolt flip while Im under there.
I should have the rear hung today or tomorrow. Heres a teaser until then. Note the suprisingly small difference in width. Also note my incredibly clean work space and my awesome temp exhaust. Im gonna run a true dual system once I get my tranny in there so that was made to last a week, and it did.
And just for fun the wifes DD. 96 Landcruiser with a 2 1/2 OME lift and 35 in TRXUS tires.

Sigh. Anyone want a good deal on a dana 70? Aparently Im going to be running a dana 80 and dana 60 front. Sigh. Ill post up the details soon. And I was so close to bolting this thing on.
Looks good! Well I guess might as well go big. For me I had to drill out the spring plate too. It was not hard with a regular drill. Just get a drill bit large enough and drill. Use WD40.

Yeah. I just thought a press would be faster, but I have a heavy drill and bit.
Ok. So the Dana 60 I was buying is from a newer dodge than the 70 I bought. It would have been 1 1/2 wider on each side than the 70, and the guy only wanted 350 for the dana 80 with the powrlock in it(rarer stronger dana option). He threw in a set of black chrome rims with mud terrains on them for 50 bucks. So for 650 Im getting a 1200-1500 dollar front axle, a 1000 dollar plus rear axle, and 300 dollars worth of rims and tires. I cant complain.
Now the dillema. Ill be pulling the springs and everything off myself anyway. I could cut the buckets off for free. Should I run the factory dodge 3/4 coil suspension up front or not? The springs should be a little soft after sitting under a cummins for 10 years.
Ya the coil springs would be sweet. But will be more work. Leaf springs are simple but strong. So it just depends how much work you want to put into it.

Im not sure it would be much work. If I take 100% of the factory parts, assuming they are in working order, really all it should be is moving a few things and welding some up.
