Rear Differential Oil Change
#11
thanx for posting this... I really need to do this myself, when I bought my Dakota the rear Dif. plug was MISSING! but the guy I bought it from said it had to have been recent, so I made a a new plug out of a different type of plug, (which is actually more effective than the original) right after I bought it, but was unable to properly top up the oil because of how thick the stuff is.
It's really in order for a dif. oil change IMO I just haven't done it yet because of the gasket, but what is this "mold-a-gasket stuff"?

anyway, the 'black stuff' or how about permatex sensor safe blue rtv silicone gasket maker for the rear diff cover on my 98 D?

Usually I'll use a premade gasket AND the RTV. But RTV blue will work just fine as well.

nice maple leaves......oh. whoops. what was my question. glad i brought up this thread now, too. oh yeah, thanks!
while on the subject, is there any retro-fit replacement for that stupid rubber plug???? checked out aftermarket diff covers, but i'm not spending 3 hundred bucks to get a cover that uses a bolt/plug.....
