Default DIY: Rebuilding a Trac-Lok LSD

In case anybody has a trac-lok lsd and is interested in the rebuild procedure, I'm doing a write up on it over in the 1st Gen Durango section for hydrashocker (which is why it isn't getting written over here). Anyway, here is the link:

Could you post this link in faq or faq2 Crazy?

Thanks! Against my better judgement I've torn down my rear axle that was already built and almost setup to do this write up, so I want to make it count!!!

If both back tires are off the ground if you spin one and the other spins the same way you have a lsd. If it turns the oposite direction you have open differential.

You can request a build sheet from dodge with your VIN. I can't tell you for sure that it will say on the build sheet, but it probably will. The only other way I know is to take the cover off and look for the clutches. My write up is for the chrysler 9.25" rear axle, which did not come factory in these trucks until gen 2, so yours might look slightly different that what is in my write up.

Lol. You forgot the pivital(to most people) step #6. Its always 6....although it usually repeats many times. It also leads to the following

#6: stop and drink a beer(inserted numerous times randomly)
which leads to
#?: Smash knuckles on axle tube/spider gears/tools because you repeated #6 too many times. Go to bed and sleep off #6, try again tomorrow.

Dude.....if its there the tires will react the same. Its a physical process, it doesnt really matter if the clutches are spooled or not. There are 2 different types of forces at work in the different types of carriers. Just do the process I mentioned and youll know in less than 5 minutes with no mess at all.

And the VIN wont necessarily show it. My parts truck had one, and I have the build sheet and its not there. The dodge dealer also didnt show it on the build when I called. Plus it takes them longer to look it up than to jack up the truck for 20 seconds.

LMAO!!! If by 6 you are reffering to the removal of the spider gears, yes that involves a lot of beer, cursing, and smashed knuckles, but nowhere near as bad as putting them back in!!!!!!!! I have the technique down now, but the first time I tried it took me 4-5 hours over 2 days to just to figure out how to do that part.
