Default pulling codes????

ok i have an 89 3.9 and i keep seeing people talking about pulling these two digit codes is it a flash code or what? and how would i go about doing this from my truck?

To pull codes, you cycle the key "on...off...on...off...on" without starting the engine and then count the flashes by the check engine light. All codes are 2 digits, so there will be a pause between the first and second digits, and a longer pause between the next code. 12 is beginning of codes, 55 is end of codes, so if you see those, don't worry about them.

Example:
flash...flash...flash...flash...flash.........flas h...flash...flash...flash...flash would be 55.
