I am trying to find more information on upgrading the transmission from the NV2500 that is normally behind the '88 2.2L and I was hoping I could get some help. I know that nowadays the 2.2 is probably considered a boat anchor but to make a long story short I have a really nice motor and I want to use it. However for my project the stock transmission and bellhousing got tossed so I need something to put back there.

I could get another NV2500 but there are 2 problems, it is notoriously weak, and the are actually hard to find because they all blew up.

I know that the AX15 is an option up upgrading on the V6s but I am not sure about the 4 banger. Is the bolt pattern on the 4cyl block the same as the 6? If the answer is they are different (which I think is the case) then can I use a 4cyl bell hosing and the AX15?
