As far as i know, a '92 Dakota and a '96 Dakota should have the same suspension. As long as they are both 4x4 or 4x2

from what I found.. yes google helps to answer your own questions aswell as looking on these forums is that the second gen apparently control arms etc bolt up to the first gen location but requires pretty much everything from the second gen to work form bearing hubs to balljoints to spindles to tierods basically everything ... remember the 97 and 98 second gen had differences apparently then 99-04 .. .. simple searches bring this info up, now if modifications of anykind were needed I don't know I didn't look into it..
remember when asking since you posted complaining , don't think everyone is around some have a life some work and some don't know..

NO a 2nd gen suspension parts will not fit on 1st gen's. There is no aftermarket suspension for 1st gens. There used to be, but no longer sold. You might get lucky and find someone with one still on the shelf. See the FAQ2 for other options as well as this same info.

I can tell you I tried to use a 97 upper control arm on a 87, both 4wd. The 97 bolts up to the frame, but the ball joint has a smaller dia. stub. So you would have to change the knuckle as well, not sure what else at that point. I ended up putting new bushings in mine along with new ball joints. Kept the old arms.
