Look forward to watching your progress. IMO the LS series motors, for the dollar have more potential then just about anything out there. Its just a matter of getting it in and hooked up. Again look forward to your progress reports.

You have got me to thinking about this swap a lot more. I had pretty much decided to swap everything in mine to a 231d transfer, nv3500 5spd. and a 5.9 carbed magnum motor.
This summer, I am going to try and go by a pick-a-part and look at a 5spd 4.3 s10 or blazer. They used the nv3500 as well but the bolt pattern is different for chevy motors vs dodge. Along with that look at a chevy 231 transfer case, mainly how the speedo ties in, and if its clocked correctly. If all of that checks out, I may try a 5.3 swap this winter myself.
Oh, and FWIW my 87 came with a nv2500 and a np207 transfer case. But I have been told the 3500 and 231 pretty much directly change out.

Yeah, I think it's the 6010 that's the one for an LS1 24 tooth wheel. Check to make sure before you order...
