Instrument cluster wiring diagram
Hi,
Does anyone have a connector pinout for the '89-'93(?) instrument cluster?
I have the '88 instrument cluster with the big fuel gauge, and I have bought a newer instrument cluster with the tachometer to replace it with.
I would like the compare the connector pinouts on the instrument clusters. Here's the connector pinouts for the '88 cluster in case anyone needs it:

There's a 1995 FSM in the downloads section here, what you want is in there.
The pinout can also be had at http://www.philent.biz/images/1995_D...Connectors.pdf .
The bad news - if your ECU is old enough, it won't produce the tach signal, and if you've got a V6, you don't have an easy place to tap it from (the tach wants 2 pulses per revolution.)
Good news - Dallas Digital makes a nice adapter that will take the 3xrev pulses and convert to 2xrev.
Bad news - sucker's about $90US at the time I post this.
Here that is:

Best of luck! I've got that on my list also, so I can get a tach on my early 1988.
Added: You may want to consider upgrading the gauge faces at the same time. I've got this in my eBay watch list: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181717205264

Thanks for your reply, RalphP!
I no longer have a ECU, and I no longer have the V6. I have now fitted a wiring harness from Painless (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...psnntjk9g4.jpg), and the engine is a 318 V8.
Are you sure the '95 uses the same cluster as the earlier models with tachometer? I see that the '95 has a pin for "Vehicle speed sensor signal"?

Other than the Vss signal for the electronic speedometer, as far as I know, yes.
OTOH - you'll still have the problem with the factory tach that the tach wants 2x pulses per revolution, and a V6 does three, a V8 four.
Silly suggestion: Take a back plate, and build your own gauge and light set to fit the dash. That way you can use, say, Autometer gauges. Tap the Vss and you can even use an electronic speedometer if you so desire.
Of course, with a /2 logic gate, you can use the V8 to drive the tach - 4/2 = 2. *dry* It's a bit more work to get 3/1.5 = 2 ....

I see your point with the tach issue now. Here's also a fix for the problem you mention:

I will keep the original gauges, if possible.

Because I'll be doing the wiring before I'm ready to spend for the tach converter.
I can always swap the speedo back and forth (one nut on the back of the cluster, and it's out).
Also, I'm playing with some other possibilities - such as backlighting the needles- and want to be able to swap available clusters (they're $25 at the U-Pull-It) in and out to suit me.
But mostly, so that if I screw it up, I can regress to the current working cluster *grins*
