What is the proper way to burp the 4.7 cooling system?
#12
First off hi, new to the forum and am glad to see that it seems to be a great community.
I own a 2004 4.7l Ram 1500 and am having one heck of a time with the cooling system. After reading several posts and trying several of the suggestions I am still coming up with the same issue. 2 weeks ago I replaced the water pump and clutch fan (second one in the last 2 years) and a week later it started to run a bit hot but since I drive 2 or 3 miles a day it never really had a chance to get too hot. Last night I was driving on the highway and it got all the way to the red line and the "check gauge" light came on. Turned on the heater which brought the temp down a bit and limped home. Replaced the thermostat and attempted to bleed the system (bleeder valve) but it is still overheating. No more air bubbles from the bleeder valve and levels are good, any ideas?

how to bleed radiator dodge durango 2000 4.7 and other similar models
Ive got some nifty info on that bleed screw.I dont know about your car,but my bleed screw was seized by rust-the car only had 98500 miles.Anyway,I tood a hammer and a punch and drove it into a chisel mark I had made into the edge of the bleed screw-Dont drive chisel tooltoo hard into plug and create a hole!!! I really dont recommend this.Anyway,I was was talking to a parts mand and he said to park the car on an incline-the steeper the better-and turn the steering wheel from right to left hard stop on each side.Do this several times....Of course, turn the engine on.-take off radiator cap-Obviously you take a cold engine.drive it on the incline, start the engine, remove radiator cap and then turn the wheel frome side to side-obviously do this several, several times.Hope this helps
