Save Gas?

Has anyone purchased one of those gas saving chips on ebay??? They are suppose to hook up to the air temp sensor and trick the computer. Any thoughts on this or any other way to help increase my MPG?? Thanks.

Gas saving tips I have are
1.) Don't drive [just a joke]
2) Champion truck or Iridium plugs, yes there is a difference from the regular so at least go truck plugs. Gaped @.040 with a feeler gauge
3.) Drive like grandma.
4.) Get some new O2 sensors, yeah they will make a big diff.
5.) clean the TB, IAC, and adjust the TPS as stated in DYI sticky.

Now others say pipe cool air in to intake via custom ram air.
for me it decreased MPG's But improved my power like you know what @ a cost of 30 bucks.

The cheap chips are a waste of money but the really expensive programmers can help if you do not use the truck to do any towing or hauling. But the downside is that the money you spend on a expensive programmer takes a long time to save that much.

THe chips do not work. If installed incorrectly they can fry your system. Also note that the computer will figure it out and just make nessassary adjustments around them. They are a waste of money. Once I tried it and with no result just to prove the point.

If you want more preformance then get a great tune up like DR was talking about then upgrade to a performance PCM (computer) or a tune like a Hypertech Max and the STC tuner and both are internet updateable.

Although if ya want to get better mileage keep your foot out of it and keep it running right. Use the search option at the top of the page and don't forget to look into the DIY thread at the top of the Durango 1st gen page.

When gas prices were nearing their peak, these programmers do pay for itself in the short run. Now with gas prices falling like crazy, it will take some time to pay itself off! haha

I paid $299 for my Hypertech programmer and it already paid for itself since my R/T requires 91 octane. Reprogramming it to regular 87 octane saves some serious money for these Durangos with 25 gallon tanks!

Thanks all. The issue I have is that with the 33's and the new bumper on the back adding weight I', only getting about 10.6 highway and 9.2 city and it hurts even with the lower gas prices. The Durango is not my daily driver, it's my adventure truck, but still when traveling long distances it still puts a hurt on my wallet.
I changed the plugs, have a K&N filter, change the oil on time, what else can I do? Will replacing the fuel filter help? I've even considered a hydrogen fuel cell!!

2 things and a couple questions


which engine do you have bc even w/ what youhave listed you should be doing better than that on gas regardless

1) how much highway driving d o you actually do w/ this truck bc the hydrogen cell (aka hho generator) only helps when driving on the highway alot (jumped my mpgs 5-6 on the higway) but they are almost useless around town (i have a thread on it around here somewhere)

2) probably the best thing you can do to help as said is drive like a grandma and replace your O2 sensors

My D has the 5.9 in it. I don't do to much highway driving but as you said I should be doing better.
I've not replaced the O2 sensor, I guess that will be the next thing to do.
