So I'm looking at either a 99-04 Jeep Grand Cherokee but I came across a 02 blue Durango with the 4.7L in and fully loaded much like the Grand Cherokee's i've been looking at. but when i went to see how much it could tow All i got was it saying that the Durango can only tow around 4100lbs whereas a Grand Cherokee can tow around 6500lbs. so what is the actually towing rating on a Durango? I find it hard to believe that its around 4100lbs since thats lower than a Cherokee with the 4.0L in it or even a Liberty with the 3.7L.

It's all in the gearing. If the Durango came with tow package, it would have 3:92 gears to give it a 7500 lb tow rating. Otherwise, stock 3:55 gears is around 4k lbs I think.

2003 ratings were reduced from 2002 ratings partially based on Government regs. If the above works for your needs, the 2002 will meet or exceed those figures.
