i tried searching the forum, but didn't find conclusive answers so i'm posting this.
99 durango slt 4x4 5.9l
I tried replacing my front pads today and didn't have the right size allen wrench for the caliper bolts.
does anyone know what size it is?
is it in fact an allen wrench? i saw some posts stating it was a torx 45 or 47, 3/8 allen, 7mm allen(?). i even called kragen and they said it was a 1/4 hex bit.
does anyone know for sure? i really need to get my brakes done, pretty much metal to metal now. just putting cheapie pads on to get me by for a few weeks till i get a paycheck and can do a proper brake job.
any feedback on the pricier ceramic pads??
thanks

see what i mean? one of you said it's a hex and the other said allen.
i'm pretty sure the allen didn't fit, so i think it's a hex.
i live 40 miles from town, so if i can't find a friend or friend of a friend that has the correct tool, i'll have to make the 80 mile round trip down and back up the mtn with my pad(caliper?) grinding against my rotor! :-(
thanks

When you strip out the bolt, let me know. There are oversized caliper bolts available instead of having to do a heli on it. Be very careful in getting it to run straight back in.

Restless<----- I like the Regular DuraLast Gold series brake pads you get from Auto Zone. They don't dust much as ceramic and hold up to my foot......I also tow a lot and roll down hills as well.
