Okay, been through a couple of tanks of premium 93 now, knocking is still there.... I LOVE my (wifes) durango. And I don't have an abundance of $$$. The knocking only starts at. About 1500 rpms. It sounds much more prominently when accelerating quickly. Am I f*cked?

what grade of oil are you running??? make sure you are using the correct weight, too thin oil can cause it (assuming it sounds like the start up tick),

Recheck the base timing. pull timing two degrees at a time if it is set proper untill the knock/ping stops. Ignition advance is likely the cause of the ping. could just be a lot of carbon build up in the cumustion chamber but in theory the seafoam would have helped there.

Indexing the distributor COULD help but the timing is controled by the PCM and not by manual placement of the distributor (although it must be indexed). The PCM can Advance and retard the timing. Also, try and figure out WHERE the tapping sound is coming from?

The best thing is to correctly Index it.

I've been running 10W40 oil. I'm lost on the indexing part,

it sounds more like a rod knock or wrist pin to me if it is only happening at start up and when he just starts to accelerate.

You are running the incorrect oil! You should be running 10W-30.

Look in here about mid way down. It means placing the distributor in the best timing position to the crankshaft at TDC (Top Dead Center). This allows the PCM to acuratly change the advance and retarding of the timing and also helps with fuel mileage.
