Default 2000 4.7 4x4 auto HEMI swap --in progress--

2000 Durango 4.7L 4x4 45rfe automatic transmission.
swapping in a 2003 Hemi from a 1500, attempting to make it California smog legal.

Apparently the 2000 4.7 is one of the more difficult vehicles to swap a Hemi into given there was a substantial change in the 4.7 wiring from '00 to '01 and newer Dak/Dur 4.7's.

I'll post more soon
  • There are 44 wires from the Hemi ECM/TCU that need to go somewhere on the Durango.
  • I have the engine installed and I'm just wading into the wiring fiasco.
  • None of the plumbing is done yet, I'm keeping the radiator pack out until I make more progress on the wiring.
  • Transmission's connected and soon will become a 545rfe w/ the '03 TCM!
  • No exhaust plumbed yet but I do know I have to use the '03 Ram's cat/O2 sensors to pass smog in CA.

Default Hemi C100 and Durango C128

The Hemi engine harness main connector is the C130 that plugs into the dash. On the engine harness, there's 9 wires to a 10-wire connector, the C100...what does the C100 plug into on the Ram/Hemi? Is it somewhere on the chassis?

The Durango has uses the exact same type of plug, designated C128, plugs from the engine/transmission harness into the Durango chassis harness at the right headlight near the ECM/TCU...but very different circuit pinouts, just the same type of connector.

**Update: Found it. The Hemi C100 and Durango C128 have nothing in common as far as wiring goes. The Dur C128 is mostly transmission circuits while the Hemi C100 is routed from the C130 dash connector to the Ram chassis harness for things like headlights, washer reservoir sensor and that kind of stuff. However, the two connectors matching does make it nice for 'splicing' wires.

Durango C128 on the left (red).

you might want to ask the guys over in the ram section about the ram connector. I doubt I'll be able to be of much help, if any, but I'm really interested in seeing how this goes.

Found it, it's just a connector to the Ram chassis harness for headlights, windshield washer fluid sensor and other chassis related items.

I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how a professional company was actually paid to lay out the wiring harness on this Durango and it's becoming more and more clear why the 2000 was a first/last year for that particular schematic. Wow. The '01-newer Dak/Dur/Ram wiring makes so much more sense.

I've got to get a connector for my APPS sensor, hotwire auto has a page of 'repair kits' with various connectors, contacts installed with a wiring pigtail out the back for an easy strip-solder install.

This is the '03 connector, they have the two newer generation APPS connectors also. Not the cheapest for one connector but it's not entirely worth my time to go to the wrecking yard hoping they have what I need to save $15, either.

I still have the radiator hoses off mine you'll need ... The top one has the inline radiator cap.. P.M. Me you're address and I'll get a S/H price if you want it...The one off you're 4.7 won't work and the Hemi has the radiator cap on top of the radiator.. You probably know that ..

I got to do alot of change overs because im using 99 interior from another durango that has black leather interior. any help would be great!!!!

I am in the process of Loading up a 2002 4x4 Durango with a 2018 SRT Durango Powerplant and Drivetrain. I will be creating custom mounts for the Engine if there has not been any advancements in this type of Project.

I was actually hoping that a 4x4 RAM with the same front Axel might provide a mounting solution--- But I have only research it over the last 24 hours......

Anyone? Anyone?

If Interested- you can find an IG account with pictures at 53 dodge sport ralley express

Thanks for your input.
