Default Service 4WD light on

Hello Dodge owners.
I have a Dodge Durango SLT+ 4,7 4WD 2001. There is a warning light on my instrument panel showing "Service 4WD".
Can anyone tell me what this means? The car has been serviced at the oil station and I do not know what kind of service I can do for the 4WD except that. The 4WD is working ok.

Thank you in advance.

Icedodge.

what do you mean when you say serviced at the oil station?, did you have the fluid changed?

Crawl under the truck and make sure no plugs are unhooked from the transfer case.

Put it in 4wd then back to 2wd while rolling slowly. You should feel it engage then disengage.

Service 4WD sounds serious. It could be as simple as fluid but then you have to find out where the fluid went to, as in leak.....
With that said..... Start with the basics, as Fox said, check the transfer case and look for loose, missing, corroded wires, etc......... Leaks, obvious transfer case damage, fluid levels.

It may work physically but until you figure out what is going on with the system I would strongly recommend NOT using the system until the problem is resolved.

I am with sharp in the question, what do you mean by service at oil station, I hope that they did not fill the differentials with the improper servicing as in wrong fluid and caused further damage. I know it should be a longshot for what are supposed to be professionals but these days you never know.

Well concerting the T-case is electronically controlled via a external motor it really isn't a big deal as far as I see. The major problems are on the inside of the T-case.

Start with what Fox said. ^^^^^^
